Collections For Those In Need

At any given time, our church is actively collecting the things people need.  You can help us provide the resources people require to sustain and change their lives.

Disaster Relief through UMCOR

Bayport UMC is actively involved in disaster relief efforts locally and abroad.  We regularly collect offerings for relief work, our members are trained to volunteer after a disaster, and we assemble and provide disaster relief kits and other items.

What is a Mission Central HUB?

“The creation of a HUB is a powerful, faith-filled way to fulfill the gospel mandate to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Stated Bishop Jane A. Middleton.  She continued, “I have witnessed churches coming alive in ministry through the creation of HUBs.”

Mission Central, located in the Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania, serves as a collection and distribution site for the many health kits, cleaning buckets, school kits, and other supplies donated by United Methodist congregations as part of disaster response and development ministries, both domestic and international. It is one of five collection sites throughout the country.

A HUB is a smaller version of Mission Central, and it is directed and managed by local churches feeling called to expand their outreach ministries.

As a Hub, Bayport UMC is helping our neighbors by collecting and assembling UMCOR relief kits. Should a disaster ever occur on Long Island, our church will be able to distribute relief supplies to the community, and excess supplies will be forwarded to Mission Central and distributed to people all over who experience a disaster.  Mission Central works with UMCOR (see above) and the churches in its network to show Christ’s love by caring for our neighbors! Volunteers are always welcome, as are donations of materials or funds towards relief kits.
